Winter semester and summer semester

The courses "tunnel planning" and "tunnel operation" provide knowledge in the areas of planning, dimensioning, equipment and operation of tunnels for road and rail transport.

The course “tunnel planning” includes topics such as traffic tunnel construction in Germany, the standards used in tunnel planning and tunnel operation, cross-sectional design of road and railway tunnels, road and rail layouts, design of underground subway systems, dewatering, emission of air pollutants and noise at tunnel entrance.

The course "tunnel operation" covers topics such as tunnel safety, ventilation, lighting, as well as control and monitoring of road tunnels.

The course is relevant for the following study courses:

  • M.Sc. Mobilität und Verkehr,

The teaching and learning contents are:

  • Basic knowledge of the planning and dimensioning of tunnel structures
  • Independent implementation of emission and immission calculations
  • Noise and pollutant emissions at tunnel portals

Time scale:

  • Lecture: 1 SWS (Semester Credit Hours)
  • Exercise: 1 SWS (Semester Credit Hours)

Tunnel operation

The course is relevant for following study courses:

  • M.Sc. Bauingenieurwesen,
  • M.Sc. Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen,
  • M.Sc. Mobilität und Verkehr,

The teaching and learning contents are:

  • Independent design and dimensioning of tunneling technical equipment elements
  • basic knowledge of safety assessments of traffic tunnels
  • dimensioning of ventilation systems
  • Tunnel control and central control technology

Time scale:

  • Lecture: 2 SWS (Semester Credit Hours)
  • Exercise: 1 SWS (Semester Credit Hours)
