The Institute Internship "Highway Engineering / Urban Engineering" is offered in the compulsory area Traffic and Space Planning in the 6. Semester of the Bachelor of Science study courses Civil Engineering and Industrial Engineering (study field Civil Engineering). It is cooperation with the Chair and Institute of Highway Research and the Chair and Institute of Urban and Transportation Planning.
The aim of the internship is to give students the opportunity to become familiar with the fields of work and the working methods of Traffic Engineers in a practice-oriented way. The students gain an insight into the methods of data collection and processing in Road and Traffic Engineering, the use of software solutions, the design of road infrastructures as well as the conception and construction of roads.
For a better understanding of the related processes, the individual working steps are performed by the students in a continuous project as it is done in practice.
In addition to the collection of traffic data, the internship also includes the design of a junction using the simulation programs "VISSIM" or "Ampel" and the dimensioning of a road cross-section including an asphalt concept.
The course is divided into various dates for which attendance is required.
The teaching and learning contents are:
- Traffic surveys
- Data processing and representation
- Laboratory testing procedures
- Introduction to the work fields and operations of traffic engineers
- Methods of data collection and processing
The information booklet "Institute Internship" is available for download on L²P or can be viewed in the display case at the institute.
